Treatment modalities used
Naturopathic Medicine is a blend of modern medical science and time honored healing traditions with the aim of preventing disease, restoring health, and finding and curing the cause of illness, both in acute and chronic conditions. The presence of symptoms is a way for the body to communicate that there is a disruption in its’ proper functioning. Treatment targets this underlying process in order to bring long-term health back to the body. Conditions commonly treated are chronic infections, gastrointestinal disturbances, endocrinological disorders, allergies, autoimmune conditions, disorders of the female and male reproductive systems, infertility, menopause, and many more. Naturopathic doctors are trained to be primary care doctors, and practice as such in licensed states. Schooling involves a rigorous four to five year accredited medical program, which includes 1500 clinical hours. Modalities learned within the naturopathic medical curriculum are botanical medicine, homeopathy, nutrition, physical medicine, minor surgery, and pharmacology.
There are many educational branches of therapeutics that are similar and can fall under the umbrella of Craniosacral Therapy. Dr. Jennifer has been trained in Core Synchronism and Cranial Osteopathy. She has mentored with the world renowned Dr. Paul Lee, DO for the last 10 years in Cranial Osteopathy and her work falls more under this discipline. Her experience is extensive and advanced in this therapy and is often an adjunct of care for many of her patients as it allows for the body to heal and repair on a deeper, fundamental, level.
The work is a gentle yet powerful energetic therapy that returns harmonious movement within any body part, including the bones, nerves, muscles, vasculature, organs, brain, etc. The therapy involves light touch to palpate the Primary Respiratory Mechanism (an osteopathic term for Qi, Prana, Vital Force, etc) and thus identifies the areas in the body that are restricted, followed by correcting/releasing the identified parts. By releasing areas of restriction, it allows tissues to ‘breathe’ again by allowing the return of oxygen and other nutrients from the blood vessels to return to cells, therefore allowing proper function to return to the body.
There are no contraindications to this work and does not interfere with any other therapies.
It is not uncommon to have a combination of cranial sacral therapy, NMT, and energy healing in one session. Your body is the guide and asks for what it needs.
Lyme Disease and Chronic Infections
Dr. Jennifer specializes in treating Lyme Disease and other chronic infections.
Lyme disease (and co-infections), Epstein Barr Virus, West Nile Virus, Cytomegalovirus, and many other infections all thrive when the immune system is compromised.A compromised immune system not only occurs from cancer and auto-immune diseases, but also things like a poor diet, stress, medications, and excessive exposure to chemicals and heavy metals.
Treating Lyme Disease or other chronic infections are never just about treating bugs. We must clean the internal terrain of the body so these opportunistic organisms are not allowed to thrive in us. Go here for more information.
We are all made up of energy.
Every atom and molecule, cell and tissue, is composed of energy.
This energy is palpable, easier for some than others to feel, but certainly palpable.
We have experiences, traumas, injuries, and emotions that all affect us on an energetic level. They can leave behind a road map or imprint within us, which can continue to impact us through our lives.
It is possible to clear these imprints, and when we do so, it restores alignment on a physical, mental, emotional, energetic, and spiritual level.
Healing is often thought of in a physical way, especially within the science of medicine. But overlooking the energetic holding patterns we carry can rob us of true healing.
Primary Response Testing
An innovative way of gathering information from the body, as taught by Dr. Paul Lee, DO and customized to suit the practice of Dr. Jennifer. Utilizing the Primary Response Mechanism (PRM), this method of testing relies on the body’s energetic response to specific inquiries into the patient’s health. In this manner, each patient is routinely tested for infections (including Lyme and co-infections), organ dysfunctions, nutritional deficiencies, toxicity, structural issues, food sensitivities/allergens, emotional/energetic/spiritual disruptions, etc. Dr. Jennifer has extensively evaluated the accuracy of Primary Response Testing through scientific methods (utilizing sensitive and specific labs through blood, stool and saliva) and has found it to be ~95% accurate.
The PRM is a term rooted in osteopathic medicine that is similar to the chi, prana, vital force, etc. Utilizing the PRM for testing purposes has been pioneered and taught by Dr. Lee. Dr. Lee and Dr. Jennifer have shared an office for 10 years (until his retirement in June 2020) where she has had the opportunity to mentor with him during this time. They began co-teaching the methodology of Primary Response Testing in 2017.
The food we eat is too often making us sick. Healthy food choices are essential to healing and nourishing our bodies, because food is the truest form of medicine there is! Each person is unique meaning their nutritional needs are unique as well. Individualized guidance is based on a patient’s condition, constitution, and specific food sensitivities or allergies.
“Our food should be our medicine and our medicine should be our food.” – Hippocrates
This approach focuses on efficient elimination of toxins from the body, developed by European doctors over 100 years ago. By ‘draining’ or ‘detoxing’ toxins from the body it optimizes the physiological cellular function of organs (meaning your parts work better). In the modern world it is ever more important to decrease insults to the body from chemical toxins, heavy metals, medications, drugs/alcohol, diet, etc. With the accumulation of toxins, the body becomes compromised. When the body is not in balance we see the development of signs and symptoms, eventually leading to chronic illness. Biotherapeutic drainage uses a combination of homeopathy, botanicals, hydrotherapy, diet, physical therapies, etc, to facilitate the body’s natural ability to eliminate toxins in a gentle manner. The end result for the patient is to restore health, meaning that cells, tissues, and organs can function as they were designed to. By doing so, it prevents the body’s reliance on adaptive physiology in order to continue with life. This therapy has a powerful and long-term effect on the body. Because our world is increasingly more toxic all the time, this therapy is essential to removing toxic waste products so they do not become stored in the body and result in disease.

Homeopathy is an energetic medicine using natural substances in a highly dilute concentration. It stimulates the body’s natural healing tendency to become more dynamic, effective, and efficient. The focus is on strengthening the body’s ability to heal rather than treating disease, and is appropriate in physical, mental, or emotional imbalances. Homeopathy is safe, effective, affordable, and will not cause side effects or negative interactions with other therapies. The art of prescribing a homeopathic remedy is essential to its efficacy. Remedies are taken orally, or some may be injected into the subcutaneous tissue.
Includes hydrotherapy (the use of contrasting hot and cold water to stimulate immune, digestive, and detoxification functions), and manual therapy to correct structural imbalances. Naturopathic doctors are trained in NMT (Naturopathic Manipulative Therapeutics). The techniques are drawn from naturopathic, osteopathic, chiropractic, and physical therapy sources and are based on the most advanced models and understanding of soft-tissue and joint dysfunctions. Treatment is very specific and only targets areas that are out of balance or restricted.
We do provide General Physical Exams. If you require consultation from a distance, you will need to be under the direction of your primary care doctor in your town, as we will not be able to provide physical exams outside of our Durango office location.
